I wanted to talk about something a little different for this post… nails!
As someone who fell victim to the awful habit of biting my nails at a young age, I find that looking after my nails and keeping them in good condition, really helps me to shift the habit (although I’m not perfect!)
My first tip for nail care is always carry a nail file (I normally buy a pack of basic ones from Boots to have in various bags and then I have a nicer one in my bedroom). Having a nail file means that if a nail breaks or there’s a slight snag, then you are able to deal with it quickly, leaving no time for picking! I also find that keeping your nails at a good length helps them to grow better.
My second tip, and the star of this post is, the Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Strengthener. This stuff is amazing and I can’t tell you the number of bottles of this that I have gotten through! It’s formulated with Nylon, Retinol, Soy and Omega 3 which all help to ensure hard, healthy-looking, shiny nails. It can help to protect against chipping, splitting, peeling and strengthens soft, fragile nails.
You can use this product on its own, a few coats will do the trick, or as a base coat to other nail varnishes (wouldn’t recommend as a top coat though, it tends to go bubbly!). I find that it dries down quickly and genuinely makes my nails stronger. I have often had people ask if these are my real nails because they’re in such good condition! I also find that even having a clear coat of strengthener on my nails makes me far less likely to bite them. A must have!!
Alternatively, if you want a nail strengthener with a tint, I’d recommended the Essie Treat Love Colour Care Nail Polishes.
My last tip is a cuticle oil. Whilst these can be overlooked, I often find that when I use a cuticle oil regularly, my nails look much nicer and I’m less likely to pick at them. For a super easy option, the Nails.Inc Vitamin E Oil Pen can be found on Amazon/Boots and is super easy to apply. For something a little more bouji: the NCLA So Rich Vitamin E Infused Cuticle Oil.
(When on the go, I also find that something like a Lanolips 101 Ointment lip balm also does the job)
So there we have it, my top tips for healthy nails! If you have any questions or recommendations, leave them below. And be sure to subscribe with your email to be notified every time I post.
Lots of love,
Lily x
